Hey loves,
Isn’t Christmas just the best? I mean, really, there’s nothing like it.
Growing up, it was all about that special day when breakfast didn’t happen at breakfast time and sweets weren’t just for after dinner. They were the main event, and oh, how glorious it was!
My great-grandmother, the undisputed queen of the kitchen, would serve up a storm. Her kitchen was the heart of our holiday joy, a place where magic happened with flour, sugar, and a whole lot of love.
Fast forward to now, and it’s my turn to fill the house with that same Christmas spirit.
This Cinnamon Roll Casserole has become our thing. It’s simple, sweet, and absolutely satisfying – a true favorite that I’m proud to make the centerpiece of our holiday brunch.
Jump to RecipeIt’s a dish that wraps you in warmth from the inside out, making the morning (or, let’s be honest, the early afternoon) just a bit more special.
As I cut the rolls and mix the custard, I’m reminded of those days, the excitement and the fun we had as kids. Baking this casserole feels like connecting the dots between then and now, a delicious bridge across generations.
When it comes out of the oven with that golden top, it’s not just the aroma that fills the room – the anticipation of the first bite and the smiles that’ll follow.
I let it cool (because we all know that’s just part of the deal), then go in with the icing for the final touch. It’s the best part, right? Watching it slowly melt and seep into the crevices of the casserole is almost as satisfying as eating it. Almost.
Cinnimon Roll Casserole
Ingredients
- 2 cans refrigerated cinnamon rolls, icing reserved
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream or milk alternative
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Start by heating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Prepare the Cinnamon Rolls: Open the cans of cinnamon rolls. Separate the rolls and cut each one into quarters. Spread the cut pieces evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Mix the Custard: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream (or milk alternative), vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well blended. Pour this mixture evenly over the cut cinnamon rolls in the baking dish.
- Add Maple Syrup: Drizzle the maple syrup evenly over the top of the casserole.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is golden brown and set in the center.
- Final Touches: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool slightly. While it's cooling, warm the reserved icing from the cinnamon roll cans in the microwave for a few seconds until it's pourable but not too runny. Drizzle the icing over the top of the warm casserole.
- Serve and Enjoy: Cut into squares, serve warm, and watch it disappear!
Notes
In the spirit of sharing and creating traditions, I’ve also started experimenting with little twists on the recipe. Adding a sprinkle of nutmeg or a dash of orange zest can elevate it from amazing to absolutely divine. It’s all about making it your own, creating something that your family will remember and maybe even pass down.
So, this holiday season, what’s your go-to dish? The one that’s more than just a recipe, but a part of your family’s Christmas story? Is it something passed down through generations or a new tradition you’re starting? Drop a comment and let me know. I’m all ears for stories of holiday cheer and culinary delights.
Wishing you a holiday filled with joy, laughter, and treats as sweet as those Christmas mornings of our childhoods. May your days be merry, your heart full, and your kitchen bustling with the love and warmth that this season brings.
